Frank
Lovejoy was well known movie actor
who also possessed a distinctive radio voice. In 1950, he commenced work on a
superior 30 minute stand-alone series called Nightbeat in which he played the role of a reporter, Randy
Stone who: É
searches the city for the strange stories waiting for him in the darkness, the
stories that come out of the shadows to find their way into Nightbeat! Stone
was reporter who cared about the human interest angle and about the people
who suffered through life's hard knocks. There
were crime stories, tender stories, tales of the common man in trouble, races
against time. Then, having wrapped up the case, Stone sat at his desk,
pounded out his story and briskly called: "Copy boy!" A
great cast, orchestrations & sound effects - another fine example of
adult radio before it was abandoned to TV. Leaving
out audition shows and repeat broadcasts, 73 episodes of this great series
have survived. Want
